Orkut in Firefox Derivatives

People with Debian based distributions would find Firefox rebranded as IceWeasel. Also some other browsers have been based on Firefox and have their own "User Agent" Name. 

The User Agent Name is a name that distinguishes between browsers. This identification is required by Web Servers to handle requests from specific browsers, especially since all browsers do not handle Web Elements the same way.

Thus users of rebranded Firefox for e.g. users of IceWeasel or SwiftFox will face trouble with some sites like Orkut.

The solution is simple: Open AddOns (Add-On manager in your rebranded Firefox) and search for the Add-On named User Agent Switcher. Install this Add-On. Now restart your browser.

Next goto  :

Tools->Default User Agent (the User Agent Switcher menu item). 

Click on :

"Edit User Agents" 

and :

Add -> New -> New User Agent. 

Give a description: "Firefox" and in the User Agent box, search for the name "IceWeasel OR SwiftFox" replace the name with Firefox.

In my browser, I had the name:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060909 IceWeasel/3.0 (Debian-3.0~rc2-1)

which I changed to:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060909 Firefox/3.0 (Debian-3.0~rc2-1)

Now change the User Agent to Firefox (or whatever name Describes this). Done!
